The Nintendo Switch is six years old, and it’s had plenty of time to build up an impressive library of great games. In fact, it’s got so many good titles that a problem has arisen: There are too many games to play, and not enough time to do them all.
That’s not a bad thing, but it does mean that picking which ones to spend your hard-earned cash on can be a bit overwhelming. So to help, we’ve rounded up the best Nintendo Switch games worth your time.
This list includes both new releases and remasters that are already in the market, as well as classic titles that have been recently released on the console (either digitally or at retail). And it’s safe to say that all of them are worth your time. The top two, however, are a real standout: Celeste is an indie game that combines ultra-tight 2D platforming action with a touching and affecting story about mental illness, while Cuphead marries airtight, brutally challenging bullet-hell shoot ’em up action with a delightful jazz soundtrack and hand-drawn 1930s style visuals that look like they’ve come straight out of a Disney cartoon.
It’s easy to see why both these games are among the best Switch games, with their stunning visuals and enthralling gameplay loops. And that’s true even of some of the older titles on this list, like Bayonetta 2. It was a Wii U exclusive when it first came out, but its recent release on Switch means you now have an excuse to re-experience one of the most brutal, fun and stylish action games from the last decade whenever you want.
Similarly, if you’ve never played The Witcher 3 before, this Switch version is the perfect way to get acquainted with Geralt of Rivia and his massive open world. It’s packed with all of the content that made the original game so beloved, including a gripping story with branching narratives and satisfying combat.
Another new 2022 release that’s worth your money is the remaster of Link’s Awakening, which makes the most of its reworked Sheikah Slate powers and delivers a fresh take on some of the series’ most iconic locations. Then there’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which isn’t quite as good as Breath of the Wild but still manages to deliver a unique and compelling Pokemon experience that feels unlike any other in the franchise.
And of course, there’s also Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is, as its name suggests, the definitive version of one of the most popular fighting game franchises in history. It’s packed with every character from the first three generations of the franchise and arguably boasts the most substantial roster of any Smash Bros. game ever.
